W/C 13/10/25
DIV ONE:
Shopfitting by SWS B lead Div One after beating their C club mates despite only having two players. Dan Kayes secured a maximum along with a brace from Colin Mitchell and the doubles.
Molyneux Associates A (Tony Sweet 3, Paul Haigh 3) played their B club mates and won 9-1 but it didn’t start well with John Steuart beating Garry Reed 3-11, 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8. Reed then found himself two games down in his next match but recovered winning the third end 12-10 and going on to win the set. All matches were of a very high standard with some outstanding points.
Johnny Hill playing up for Shopfitting by SWS A was outstanding in the teams’ 10-0 win over their D side and has the potential to be a very good player in the future. Rob Barnes was unlucky whilst playing Mike Briggs just losing out 9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 10-12.
With a 9-1 win over Shopfitting by SWS E, Crafthole A move up to second in the division. Les Cole saved the whitewash defeating Shirley Luckhurst 4-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7.
DIV TWO:
Astor A overcame their B club mates 6-4 but Nigel Aston of the B team earned his maximum with a deceptive spin game. The set of the evening saw the A teams Clive Davies breeze into a two-game lead only for Glenn Delaney to fight back to level the score. In the fifth end Delaney led 10-6 but Davies triumphed 12-10.
The local derby between Woodland Fort B and Woodland Fort A (6-4) went the way of the B team with two games apiece from all players. For Fort A Abel Hernandez was on maximum form narrowly edging out Graham Cooksley in four sets and Shaun Hughes in five after being two down. Hernandez then teamed up with Brian Luscombe to take the doubles. The overall points scored was 336-332 and now both teams have 27 points.
Yet another 6-4 scoreline in this close division saw Crafthole B defeat Molyneux Associates C with no less than five sets going to the fifth end. Crafthole’s Martin Hynes claimed a maximum but all his matches went to the fifth end decider.
To complete all the games finishing 6-4 this week in this division, Lee Mill, with the help of Richard Smaridge’s maximum, overcame Shopfitting by SWS F in a good evening between old friends.
DIV THREE:
With a whitewash win over Astor C, Woodland Fort C have now taken over the top spot in the division with Pavel Mohammed taking his first maximum in the league.
Molyneux Associates F struggled against their E team but Shaun Hughes managed a brace in their 2-8 defeat and now remain second bottom of the league.
Shopfitting by SWS G could only field two players although they tried hard to get a third player and therefore lost to Fitness At Home 9-1. SWS G’s Neel Shivane taking the only point beating John Dodd 1-11, 10-12, 12-14.
Crispin Jordan was in fine form for visitors Horrabridge against Molyneux Associates D, gaining a maximum and the doubles with his son Max in five sets helping Horrabridge to a 7-3 victory. Max Jordan also scored a brace for Horrabridge as did Alan Davis for Molyneux. The closest match saw Crispin Jordan defeat Pete Andrews 12-10, 14-12, 12-12, 11-9.
W/C 06/10/25
DIV ONE:
Shopfitting by SWS B (Jan Walaszkowski 3, Dan Kayes 3) outplayed Molyneux Associates B beating them 8-2 with stand-in Toby Spencer from Div Two taking a well-earned point as well.
Meanwhile SWS A are still struggling and only competing with two players, but Martin Parnell and Mike Briggs managed a draw against Crafthole a who had Shirley Luckhurst in form taking a maximum.
Shopfitting by SWS C got the better of their E club mates winning 9-1 with newcomer Johhny Hill taking a maximum along with Steve Garlick. Keith James replied for SWS C with their solitary point beating John Palmer.
Shopfitting by SWS D could not match the speed, control and spin against a very good Molyneux Associates A side losing 10 nil. Tony Sweet was outstanding and never coincided a game keeping all the SWS players under 7 points.
DIV TWO:
There are only 9 points separating top from bottom with 3 teams currently joint top on 23 points.
A competitive match with no individual maximums saw a drawn match between Crafthole B and Woodland Fort B. Shaun Hughes (Fort) ‘dug’ in well to beat Martin Hynes and Martin Wilcox, but found Anthony Shapland too hot to handle, losing in 3 games. The stats show that a draw was indeed a fair reflection of the match which was played in great spirits.
Shopfitting by SWS F and Molyneux Associates C played out a draw with SWS’s Mel Birwe securing her first maximum of the season but her team mate Trevor Mole lost his first point of the season. Birwe need a fifth end tie-break to beat Ian Reed 9-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-9, 12-10.
The third match this week to finish in a draw was between Lee Mill (Richard Smaridge 3) and Astor A. Wendy Richards (Lee Mill) was unfortunate not to gain a point losing 4 tie-breaks throughout all her matches. Also, her team mate Ann Warren (1) was twice leading 2-1 in games but lost out on winning those points.
An entertaining and sporting match took place between Astor B and Woodland Fort A with the visitors prevailing 7-3. There were some long rallies with big hitting and fine block returns especially from newcomer this season Alper Eroglu (Astor). Abel Hernandez (Fort) was the standout player with a maximum with Jon Goodfield (Fort) and Nigel Aston (Astor) with 2 apiece.
DIV THREE:
Despite a 4-6 loss to Woodland Fort C, Shopfitting by SWS G still lead Div Three. Player of the match was Fort’s young Lucas Deves taking a maximum but only just after beating Jack Heinemann 11-9, 11-22, 8-11,9-11, 15-13.
Molyneux Associates E (Alan Spencer, Abiola Obanla and Tom Housden) moved up to third place in the division with a whitewash over Astor C.
Fitness At Home, (Chris Dodd, John Dodd and Adam Forshaw) with a 7-3 win over Molyneux Associates D secured their first win of the season but strangely no single player managed a maximum.
Molyneux Associates F travelled to Horrabridge amid road traffic chaos and suffered a 3-7 defeat with Shaun Hughes winning all of Molyneux’s points. New comer Max Jordan managed a brace for Horrabridge but lost out to Hughes in the fifth end.
W/C 29/09/25
DIV ONE:
Shopfitting by SWS B, Colin Mitchell, Mike Griffiths and Dan Kayes whitewashed their E club mates who had Trevor Mole standing in. Les Cole put up the most resistance losing out to Mitchell 11-8, 5-11, 15-13, 9-11, 6-11.
Shopfitting by SWS C hosted Molyneux Associates B but lost 2-8. The encounter between SWS’s Steve Garlick and Russ Keith, as always, turned out to be an epic close encounter with some outstanding play from both players with Keith winning 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6.
Despite Crafthole A (Iain Oxenham 3, Shirley Luckhurst 3) winning 9-1, Shopfitting by SWS D’s Steve Foster and Rob Barnes put up a brave fight. Foster took his teams solitary point beating Mike Cookson and Barnes took Oxenham and Luckhurst all the way to the fifth games.
DIV TWO:
An evenly matched evening with four games going to five sets saw Woodland Fort A beat Crafthole B 6-4, with the only maximum coming from Fort’s Jon Goodfield. Crafthole’s Martin Wilcox secured a brace but after being comfortably 2 nil up against Abel Hernandez found himself level going into the final game but finally winning a tie-break 14-12.
Ralph Stone was back to form for Woodland Fort B with a maximum against Astor B in their 7-3 win. For the visitors Nigel Aston (2) got the better of Graham Cooksley with an 11-8 fifth end win after being two sets up and Alper Eroglu edged out Glenn Delaney 13-11 in a fifth set tie break.
Lee Mill’s Richard Smaridge secured another perfect maximum, not losing a game, against Molyneux Associates C. Molyneux’s Toby Spencer managed to secure a brace in his team’s 4-6 loss.
Octogenarian Trevor Mole took a maximum for Shopfitting by SWS F over Astor A despite Clive Davies pushing him all the way 11-7, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-6. Mole was backed up with a brace from Mel Birwe in their 6-4 win
DIV THREE:
All credit goes to the Horrabridge team who let their own player Richard Drew (1) play for Molyneux Associates E against themselves. It was Horrabridges Isa Puente who stole the show securing a maximum in her team’s 6-4 victory.
Once again Molyneux Associates F only fielded two players but won 7-3 over Astor C. Molyneux’s Jamie Canning and Dominic Goss both getting their first ever maximums in the league including the doubles match.
Molyneux Associates D and Shopfitting by SWS G had a closely fought match with SWS securing victory 6-4 in the fifth game of the doubles. Best match of the evening saw Molyneux’s Alan Davis go into a 2-game lead against Jack Heinemann before Heinemann fought back taking the set to a fifth game. Davis had the luckiest of winning shots in the tie break with the ball hitting the net clamp and dropping over onto the table.
Fifteen-year-old Lucas Deves was man of the match securing a maximum despite two of his matches going to the fifth game decider. His achievement helped Woodland Fort C beat Fitness At Home 7-3. John Dodd managed a brace and the doubles to gain FAH their points.
W/C 22/09/25
DIV ONE:
Despite Molyneux Associates B whitewashing Shopfitting by SWS D both teams played some outstanding rallies and shots and SWS were unfortunate not to secure a point.
Johnny Hill from Division 2 played up for Shopfitting by SWS C as they hosted Crafthole A and produced a flawless performance with a maximum without dropping a game. However, Crafthole ended the evening with a 6-4 win overall.
Molyneux Associates A suffered a rare defeat, this time at the hands of Shopfitting by SWS B with mike Griffiths and Colin Mitchell securing maximums in their 8-2 win.
DIV TWO:
Astor B entertained Lee Mill in a friendly but competitive match with honours finishing all. Richard Smaridge (Lee Mill) was the only player to achieve his maximum playing very solidly. The game of the evening featured new player to the league, Alper Eroglu (Astor) beating Mark Chapman in the 5th end after being 2 games down. Unfortunately, in the doubles Nigel Aston (Astor) had to retire hurt thus forfeiting the set and the chance for Astor to win the match.
Woodland Fort A and Astor A saw an enjoyable and evenly matched evening ending in an amicable draw. Well done to Fort’s Abel Hernandez for the only maximum of the night including two 5 set matches. Clive Davies returning to play took a brace for Astor.
With only 4 game points separating the two teams over all sets, the 7-3 scoreline seemed to be a little harsh on Crafthole B whilst playing Shopfitting by SWS F, but an enjoyable evening all the same. It was a hard-fought match with a fine maximum by stand in Toby Spencer (SWS).
With some very close scores, Molyneux Associates C beat Woodland Fort B 7-3. Molyneux’s Toby Spencer taking the only maximum, supported by Ian Reed (2) and newcomer Yaz Azizi (1). Only three games were played in straight sets.
DIV THREE:
Two player Molyneux Associates lost 2-8 to their club mates of the D team. Newcomers Dominic Goss and Jamie Canning both secured their first points for the F team.
Astor C suffered a whitewash at the hands of Shopfitting by SWS G with Dave Nash putting up a brave fight against Ayaan Chatterjee only just losing 9-11, 9-11, 10-12.
This match saw a debut from Isa Puente for Horrabridge, who played very well winning her first two matches in straight sets, but was unable to get past Adam Forshaw of Fitness at Home who remained the only unbeaten player. The only 5 set game was between David Vanstone and Mike Chapple (Fitness at Home) managing a tight win to secure the draw.
With only 9 game points separating both teams Woodland Fort C defeated Molyneux Associates E 7-3 with Fort’s Mike Willis taking the only maximum.
W/C 15/09/25
The start of the new season saw three new teams join the league this year with a slightly different format.
DIV ONE:
Molyneux Associates with a new team mate Paul Haigh started their season whitewashing Shopfitting by SWS E with Les Cole putting up the most resistance.
Shopfitting by SWSD entertained SWS C with the D team winning 7-3. Rob Barnes was the inform player taking a maximum, and pairing up with Steve Foster to take a closely hard-fought doubles with good lots of banter throughout the evening.
Crafthole A beat Molyneux Associates B 8-2 in a closely fought match playing 46 games out of maximum 50. Iain Oxenham and Shirley Luckhurst taking maximums.
Shopfitting by SWS A & B met with the A team having to borrow Jan Walaszkowski from the B team to complete their line-up but lost 4-6. Walaszkowski lost all his matches but no-one knows if this was on purpose!
DIV TWO:
A slightly flattering result for Crafthole B, winning every tie break which helped settle 4 sets over Shopfitting by SWS B and eventually winning 8-2. There were one or two rusty performances as expected, but a good evening nonetheless.
Shopfitting by SWS and Woodland Fort played out a draw with matches played in good spirits but with surprising scores. SWS’s Trevor Mole defeated Abel Hernandez 3-2 but Hernadez managed to 11-1 victory in one of the games.
Crafthole B hosted Astor A and won 8-2 with Anthony Shapland and Martin Hynes securing maximums.
Unfortunately, Lee Mill could only field two players because of holidays and a late withdrawal at lunchtime due to sickness so it was always going to be a battle against a strong Woodland Fort B (Graham Cooksley 3) side. Lee Mill could have had a draw after starting the doubles strongly winning the first two games 11-3 but then lost the next three games in 5, 5 and 4.
Molyneux Associates C beat Astor B 7-3 with fine battling maximum from Toby Spencer and winning all six tie-breaks. Molyneux’s Yaz Azizi acquitted himself well in his first ever league match and was eventually rewarded with his first league victory.
DIV THREE:
Fitness At Home and Molyneux Associates E could only field two players a piece and Molyneux won 6-4 with newcomer Abi Obanla taking a maximum in his first league match.
Molyneux Associates F had two new players in Dominic Goss and Jamie Canning and supported by Shaun Hughes (3). Both newcomers suffered first match nerves and froze during their matches against Shopfitting by SWS G with SWS winning 7-3.
Molyneux Associates D could only field 2 players for their match against Astor C but did manage to win 7-3. Paul Eaton of Astor pushed Pete Andrews all the way, losing 12-10 in the last game. Likewise, Dave Nash of Astor was 2-1 up against Alan Davis, eventually losing 11-8 in the fifth game.
