W/C 07/04/25
DIV ONE:
Two players shone in a well contested match. Garry Reed of Molyneux Associates A and Tony Maestri of Astor faced each other in the last round of singles, both having won their previous 2 matches. Reed came out on top of a fantastic game of attack and counter-attack, to secure his maximum and the doubles with team mate Glyn Price for a 7-3 win.
Shopfitting by SWS B defeated Molyneux Associates B 9-1, for the second time, with only Colin Mitchell dropping a point in a great evening of some brilliant match play. SWS’s Mike Griffiths played only his first match of the phase and duly took a maximum, only conceding 53 points in total.
Gary West played his first match of the phase but could only manage a solitary point, but his Shopfitting by SWS A team mates, Martin Parnell and Mike Briggs both managed maximums against Crafthole A in their 8-2 victory. This results keep them in contention with the leaders and they are only 3 points behind Molyneux Associates A who they play in two weeks’ time.
DIV TWO:
Trevor Mole stood in for Shopfitting by SWS C and took a brace against Woodland Fort A. Steve Foster 3 and Bryn Ford with 2 secured the 7-3 win for SWS. Mole’s match against Jon Goodfield, at the very start of the evening was an epic. Mole led 2-1, but Goodfield recovered to win the remaining two games 11-9, 11-9.
Unfortunately, Lee Mill suffered team selection problems and then one player had car problems and didn’t make the match, so had to play with only two players and then got whitewashed by leaders Molyneux Associates C.
DIV THREE:
Woodland Fort B proved too strong for Astor E in winning 7-3 with Nigel Aston getting the points for Astor. Graham Cooksley, Toby Spencer and Glenn Delaney with 2 each plus the doubles of Cooksley and Spencer took the points for Fort. Special thanks to young Lucas Deves who stepped into the breach at the very last moment for Astor when they found themselves a player short.
Another maximum for Crafthole B’s Rui Barretto (and the doubles with Anthony Shapland) helped his team to an 8-2 victory over Molyneux Associates D, Barretto found it difficult to get into his rhythm against Muhammad Arsal until the 5th end which he won 11-0.
DIV FOUR:
Life Centre All Stars Shane Jones was the only person to get maximum in the battle against Marjon but his team still lost 3-7. Chris Dodd and John Dodd both took Jones to a thrilling five ends after being 2-1 up they lost the remaining ends 12-10, 12-10 and 11-9, 11-9 respectively.
Dave Nash of bottom team Astor F had his first every brace whilst playing Molyneux Associates E beating Alan Spencer and Jeremy Wilcox both in 5 games. Molyneux’s Toby Spencer took another maximum and is unbeaten in this phase of the season with his team winning 8-2.
W/C 31/03/25
DIV ONE:
Crafthole A, with only two players, hosted Molyneux Associates B and lost 4-6 with some close and great matches. Crafthole’s Mike Cookson gained a maximum despite being pushed all the way to the fifth end in one match.
Tony Sweet and Glyn Price of Molyneux Associates A both secured maximums along with the doubles in their 7-3 victory over Shopfitting by SWS B. Price achieved this playing a marathon 19 games over the evening, whereas Sweet won his matches in straight game. Their team mate Sam Bruty suffered a duck but two of the matches went to the fifth end.
Although Astor A were whitewashed by Shopfitting by SWS A several of the games were closer than the scoreline suggested. Steve Garlick (Astor) had a very close match with Martin Parnell, with the set going to the 5th end, but Parnell's effective use of his block caused enough difficulty to give him the win. In the doubles, Astor's Steve Cookson and Garlick were 10-5 up in the first end, but couldn't close out the game, losing it 14-12, before going down in 4 ends.
DIV TWO:
Molyneux Associates C, Mitch Nash, Jake Neilson and Paul Haigh, are running away with the league after whitewashing Woodland Fort As scoring 364 points against 235 points in total.
Chris Tucker (Astor B) was the only person to win a hat trick with Les Cole (Astor) and Mark Chapman (Lee Mill) each winning 2 in a 6-4 for Astor with them winning 22-13 in games.
Shopfitting by SWS C had to work very hard to get the 6-4 win over their E club mates. The match could of gone either way with a lot of very close games. John Palmer (SWS E) found some form with a brace for the E team. Great banter was had by all during the evening.
DIV THREE:
Toby Spencer continues to support Woodland Fort B. Spencer and Graham Cooksley both picked up maximums in Forts 7-3 win over Molyneux Associates D but both lost sets along the way to Mohammad Arsal, Pete Andrews and Alan Davis. Andrews and Davis combined to take the doubles off Glenn Delaney and Spencer to add to points won by Andrews and Arsal.
Crafthole B beat the two players of Astor D 7-3 with Rui Barretto gaining a maximum along with a brace from Anthony Shapland. Unfortunately Astor D will now be withdrawing from the league due to injuries etc.
DIV FOUR:
Shopfitting by SWS D (Jack Heinemann 3) and Marjon met to play out a top of the division clash and the honours went to SWS winning 7-3. Chris Dodd in response took both points for Marjon and the double with Mike Chapple.
Despite the Life Centre All Stars winning 9-1, Astor’s F gained their first point of the phase when Dave Nash came from 2 nil down to defeat Glyn Oldfield 5-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-4. Astor’s Keiran McGarry and Paul Eaton are steadily improving match by match as Eaton suffered two tie-break defeats.
Molyneux Associates E played out a draw in every area of the match against Horrabridge. The team points totalled 333 against 331, and the tie breaks won were three-a-piece. The only difference was young Molyneux’s Toby Spencer who remains unbeaten in this phase.
W/C 24/03/25
DIV ONE:
The top of the clash between Molyneux Associates A and Shopfitting by SWS A saw the current league leaders extend their lead after a 7-3 victory. A key match was between Garry Reed and SWS’s Mike Briggs. With the match poised at 3-2 to Molyneux, Reeds straight sets win gave them breathing space that they capitalised on by winning 3 of the next 4 games. The match was played in a great spirit.
Ben Stanbury of Molyneux Associates B won his first match after returning to play after a 11-year break beating Tony Maestri in a thriller 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 8-11, 11-5. All of Stanbury’s matches went to the fifth game. Molyneux’s Steve Hill was man of the match, securing a well-deserved maximum in his team 7-3 victory.
Shopfitting by SWS B had to call on two players from other teams to fulfil their fixture against Crafthole A (Iain Oxenham 3) and lost 4-6 in what was a great evening with some brilliant table tennis played by all players.
DIV TWO:
Woodland Fort A and Astor B played out a closely fought (4-6) match with 8 games going to tie-breaks, the most notable was the very first game with Astor’s Chris Tucker getting the better of Abel Hernandez 20-18.
Paul Haigh was in fine form for Molyneux Associates C with a maximum and helped in the doubles with their 8-2 win over Shopfitting by SWS C. Steve Foster gained both points for SWS.
Lee Mill were without Richard Smaridge and lost 1-9 to Shopfitting by SWS E with Trevor Mole and Mel Birwe both securing their maximums. With this loss, Lee Mill find themselves joint bottom of the table with two other teams.
DIV THREE:
A maximum by Johnny Hill helped Astor D to a respectable score line against a strong Woodland Fort B team losing 4-6. As a newcomer to the league Hill is finding his feet and putting in some good performances.
Astor E drew 5-5 with Molyneux Associates D in a closely fought match with long rallies. Nigel Aston (Astor) played three 5 game sets and scored 143 points for his only victory! Muhammed Arsal (Molyneux) was the player of the night with his maximum although Ken Chambers (2) ran him close and showed a welcome return to form after not feeling 100% recently. Surprisingly the doubles was a quick affair when Chambers and Barrie Oliver defeated Pete Andrews and Arsal 11-3, 11-6, 11-8.
Crafthole B lead the division and secured an 8-2 victory over Woodland Fort C with Martin Wilcox gaining his first maximum of the phase. Richards Searle managed a brace with a good win over Antony Shapland 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 15-13.
DIV FOUR:
Unbeaten Toby Spencer of Molyneux Associates E continues his maturity in the game and helped his team to a 6-4 victory over Life Centre All Stars winning all his matches in straight games scoring 102 points and only conceding 50.
Astor F are still struggling for their first point of the season and again lost 0-10 this time to the youngsters from Shopfitting by SWS D.
Marjon lead the division by just one point after beating Horrabridge 6-4 thanks to a maximum from Adam Forshaw.
W/C 17/03/25
DIV ONE:
Astor A hosted Shopfitting by SWS B who were struggling for players and this was reflected in the score as SWS went down 1-9. Dan Kayes, the only regular player from SWS, secured their sole point against Steve Garlick in a 5th end tie break.
There was a 9-1 victory when Shopfitting by SWS A played Molyneux Associates B. The solitary point was won by Steve Hill who played some brilliant defensive shots coupled with fierce smashing. Mark Weymouth and Mike Briggs each accomplished their maximums.
Another 9-1 win saw Molyneux Associates A defeat hosts Crafthole A with Iain Oxenham beating Garry Reed in straight sets to win Crafthole’s only point.
DIV TWO:
Unfortunately, Woodland Fort were unable to find a third player for their match at lee Mill and so they were always playing catch up. Richard Smaridge secured another maximum. The doubles match was closely contested and could have gone either way but the more consistent play from Lee Mill ensured the 7-3 victory.
Molyneux Associates C and Shopfitting by SWS E met with Molyneux taking a 9-1 win. There were some close games throughout the night, with both Mitch Nash and Paul Haigh both getting their maximums. Special mention to Mel Birwe for getting SWS's point with some excellent play throughout the evening.
Astor’s Chris Tucker had some very close games with five tie-breaks, winning one game and losing one in the fifth end against Shopfitting by SWS C. With braces from Steve Foster and Steve Tyler this help SWS over the line, winning 6-4.
DIV THREE:
Despite scoring over 140 points on the night, Crafthole B’s Martin Wilcox had nothing to show for it, losing all 3 sets in the 5th end and losing 3 of the 4 tie-breaks he was involved in. Astors E’s other point came from another 5-game thriller, with Nigel Aston narrowly defeating Martin Hynes. Crafthole’s Rui Barretto was in ruthless form, winning all of his singles matches in 3 games, dropping only 54 points in total.
Woodland Fort B took the honours over their C team with an 8-2 victory with Richard Searle and Mike Willis taking the C teams points with wins against Toby Spencer and Glenn Delaney respectively. Fort B’s Graham Cooksley managed to score 160 individual games points only dropping 57.
Honours were even when Molyneux Associates D hosted Astor D with the match ending 5-5. Muhammed Arsal of Molyneux Associates scored the only maximum. Lucas Deves of Astor, the youngest player in the League, overcame Peter Andrews in a close set over 5 games, winning the decider 11-7.
DIV FOUR:
Shopfitting by SWS D won 6-4 against Molyneux Associates E with no less than 10 tie-breaks played out throughout the matches with SWS winning 7 of them in their 6-4 victory. One of the best encounters saw Molyneux’s Toby Spencer defeat Jack Heinemann 12-10, 11-13, 8-11, 11-5, 13-11.
Despite being bottom of the division and without a win, Astor F put up their best performance so far against Marjon by actually taking 3 games in total and being involved in 3 tie-break points. Astor’s Dave Nash almost got a point for his team but lost out to Chris Dodd 9-11, 8-11, 10-12.
Life Centre All Stars (Shaun Hughes and Shane Jones 3) managed a 7-3 win over Horrabridge.
W/C 10/03/25
DIV ONE:
Molyneux Associates A played their B club mates and won 8-2 with some brilliant rallies but a lot of nets and edges by both teams. This did not distract from the enjoyable evening with Glyn Price from the A team taking the only maximum and John Steuart (B team) taking the points for his team.
Shopfitting by SWS A and (two player) B met with the A team winning 8-2 with Mark Weymouth gaining the only maximum but he had to fight hard, winning both his played matches in the fifth game.
Crafthole A and Astor A also played out a 8-2 game in favour of Crafthole with Mike Cookson taking a maximum but he was pushed all the way to fifth ends both by Steve Garlick his brother Steve.
DIV TWO:
Lee Mill A were 5-4 down in the match against Shopfitting by SWS C and needed the doubles to draw. Ann Warren paired with Mark Chapman and won the game in the 5thgame for a well-earned draw. Lee Mill’s Richard Smaridge was the man of the match getting a maximum only losing one game.
Shopfitting by SWS E and Woodland Fort A also played out a draw in their match with Trevor Mole of SWS securing a maximum after a great battle against Jon Goodfield winning 4-11, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9. Only two sets were won in straight games throughout the whole evening.
DIV THREE:
Astor E entertained clubmates Astor D with the D team winning 7-3 and Steve Harvey (Astor D) the only player to achieve a maximum. The scoreline did not reflect the closeness of the match with Nick May (Astor D) twice winning 11-9 in the 5th end after being two games up against both Ken Chambers and Barrie Oliver. Johnny Hill for Astor D, an 18-year-old University student was playing his first ever competitive match and won 2 sets. He played very well with some outstanding hitting and shows great promise.
Anthony Shapland is emerging as the inform player for Crafthole B with yet another maximum plus the doubles with Rui Barretto. Barretto suffered a rare loss, defeated by Woodland Fort B’s Graham Cooksley in a close fought 5 game thriller. Crafthole won 8-2.
With Mohammad Arsal (3) and Pete Andrews (2) of Molyneux Associates D playing well their team went on to beat Woodland Fort C 7-3 despite the brave efforts from Mike Willis (2).
DIV FOUR:
The night belonged to the Marjon players as John Dodd battled to the last point, Mike Chapple fast served for victory and Adam Forshaw's left-handed serves proved tricky but they emerged with a 6-4 win against Molyneux Associate E. However, none of the winning sides victors could take the edge off Toby Spencer's confident and considered play, providing the only real resistance for the home side.
Jack Heinemann of Shopfitting by SWS D stole the show winning a maximum and helped his team to their first win of the phase against Life Centre All Stars, but, Shane Jones pushed him all the way in a five-game thriller 11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8. Life Centre’s Glyn Price also had a five-game match but lost out to a fifth end tie-break to Neel Shivane 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-13.
W/C 03/03/25
DIV ONE:
Shopfitting by SWS A started the new phase with a 7-3 victory over promoted Crafthole A. SWS’s Martin Parnell took a maximum but required a fifth end tie break 12-10 win to defeat Shirley Luckhurst (2).
Molyneux Associates B hosted Shopfitting by SWS B and it started well with Steve Hill beating Jan Walaszkowski but it went all downhill from there losing 1-9. There were some close games but SWS had the edge throughout the matches.
Although Astor A were whitewashed by Molyneux Associates A, several of the games were closer than the end results suggested. Steve Garlick (Astor) had a competitive game against Garry Reed, managing to block Reed's powerful spin loop, however was unable to close out the 4th end losing it 15-17. Astor's Tony Maestri also came back well to take the 3rd end against Reed, having gone two games down, but the Molyneux player started to read Maestri's service and took the 4th end 11-9. Molyneux's Tony Sweet managed a clean sweep without dropping a game all night.
DIV TWO:
Despite some of the scores there were lots of very open games which made for an enjoyable evening when Lee Mill hosted Molyneux Associates C. The two stand out matches were Richard Smaridge against Mitch Nash and the Doubles and both were really tight games that could have gone either way. The doubles was exciting and a win for Lee Mill gave them a 4-6 loss.
Steve Foster got the only maximum of the night for Shopfitting by SWS C against Woodland Fort A, narrowly beating Forts Jon Goodfield in a 5th set deuce. Abel Hernandez pulled back from 2-0 to beat SWS'S Rob Barnes and with another 5th set deuce Fort won the doubles to draw 5 each at the end of the night.
DIV THREE:
A very enjoyable match with some long, close games saw two player Astor D having to settle for a 4-6 loss against Woodland Fort C players all winning braces.
Toby Spencer was the man of the match for Woodland Fort B in their 9-1 win over Astor E. Spencer playing up from Division 4, picked up his maximum with two fifth end decider wins, after being behind in both, against Ken Chambers and Nigel Aston.
Visitors Crafthole B were too strong for Molyneux Associates D. Anthony Shapland gained a maximum for the visitors with Martin Hynes and Martin Wilcox grabbing brace. Muhammed Arsal won two of his team's points for Molyneux in the singles and partnered Pete Andrews in the doubles to complete a 3-7 loss.
DIV FOUR:
Shopfitting by SWS C and Horrabridge played out a draw with the first 3 sets all going to 5 games with a lot of high scorelines. SWS’s Jack Heinemann (3) and Ayaan Chatterjee (2) played very well but Dave Vanstone and Dave Wilson played very well in the doubles to get the draw.
Adam Forshaw (Marjon) gained his first maximum of phase three. It was a close match between John Dodd and Life Centre All Star’s Shaun Hughes with a 5-game match with some amazing smashes but Dodd managed to secure the win helping Marjon win 7-3.
Astor F suffered a whitewash at the hands of Molyneux Associates E’s Alan Spencer, Toby Spencer and Jeremy Willcox.
